Monday, November 2nd, 2015. Orange Walk Bureau Reporting: Today, November 2nd is being observed as “Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos” in Mexico and in Belize it is no different.
In Orange Walk Town, the Banquitas House of Culture (BHOC) organized a traditional observance with three altars of offerings to the dead.
According to BHOC’s Coordinator, Cindey Rivero, the event was normally observed at the BHOC but this year it was moved to the Piemonte Cemetery where the public was invited.
From local sweets to traditional foods and drinks, the altars were blessed by Father Oliver Smalls and prayed upon by the many visitors. The symbolic gesture is an offering to the souls of the dead.
