Tuesday, November 10, 2015. BMG: New Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales has met with Belize’s ambassador, Alexis Rosado, following his victory in the October 27 run-off.
In his Monday press conference, as he had previously predicted, Morales’ message given to Rosado to report to Belize was, in the Prime Minister’s words, “professional and perhaps even conciliatory,”
but he added that given how much of a hinge issue Guatemala remains, “we will constitute a sort of cabinet standing committee of the cabinet to keep a close brief – a watching brief with respect to the Guatemala issue.”
Morales is to be officially sworn in in January. The Prime Minister reported that Morales is considering limiting attendees to that inauguration to his counterparts in Central America rather than most of the Americas. Belize has been formally invited, but as to attendance by the Prime Minister himself, all he would say was, “Well, we will see about that.”
