Monday, November 16, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) handed out scholarships to nine persons participating in tourism education at various junior colleges and the University of Belize this past Friday at its Belize City office.
The winners were selected for their academic performance and work and community service.
According to Director of Tourism Karen Bevans, the BTB wants to help build capacity in the industry and offer opportunities for youths to aim high and have big dreams for their careers, while expanding the pool of human resources for the growing industry.
Three two year tuition scholarships for associate program in tourism at a junior college were awarded to Giselle Rodriguez, Amina Cal and Monique Tucker.
Meanwhile, Jewel Williams, Alexander Cal and Gariesha Teck will study for a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management at the University of Belize.
Delmi Carrillo has been awarded the Jean Shaw Tourism Scholarship for two years leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management at UB. Shaw was a renowned tourism pioneer who played an integral part in the development of the industry; the scholarship in her name supports the development of qualified Belizean females pursuing a career in tourism.
Finally, two ten-thousand dollar scholarships for a Culinary Program, were awarded to Natalia Silva and Angel Rodriguez.
