Tuesday, November 17th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: We last left the matter of the Santa Cruz Maya and their efforts to enforce the law against black resident Rupert Myles who had bulldozed Pablo Mis MLApart of the Uxbenka Maya ruin to build a pathway to the house in the village where the Institute of Archaeology (IOA) had announced plans to evict Myles and criminally charge him with destruction of sacred property.

But this has not been done; in fact, according to Pablo Mis of the Maya Leaders’ Alliance, Myles continues to remain on his property.

Mis explained that the IOA has not moved on the ground and as a result Myles continues to “denude” the ruin.

It is one example of continued violations by the Government, including removing lands from Maya communities without their consent in Jalacte and elsewhere.

The CCJ has noted, according to Mis, that the Maya have the right to file in the Supreme Court for redress but they do not want to without first giving the Government an opportunity to come clean.

The 13 charged with restraining Myles earlier this year are still in court.
