Thursday, November 19th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: During official ceremonies marking Garifuna Settlement Day today in Dangriga, Prime Minister Dean Barrow announced that Government would contribute “significantly” toward the payment of the fee of sculptor Stephen Okeke, 
who created the bust of Thomas Vincent Ramos, founder of Garifuna Settlement Day.
Brought to the culture capital last year, it has still not been fully paid for by the Thomas Vincent Ramos Foundation and other Dangriga elders.
There will also, said Prime Minister Barrow, be a contribution for the Gulisi Community Primary School, named for the matriarch of the Belizean Garinagu population.
He said it was absolutely important that the Garifuna language be kept alive against the rages of modernity, which cause Garinagu to lose their sense of culture and identity.
And in a further tribute to T.V. Ramos, the road named after him in the center of Dangriga Town will receive upgrading courtesy of the Dangriga Town Council and the Government of Belize, and will now be called Thomas Vincent Ramos Avenue.
It runs east to west from Commerce Street in the center of town to Pen Road close to the Hummingbird Highway.
