By BMG Staff: If you were in Belize around 1:30 Thursday afternoon and felt a little tremor, don’t worry: that was the shocks from a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Mexico 11 km (6.8 mi) east northeast of Tres Picos in the state of Chiapas on December 17 at a depth of 60.2 miles.
According to Mexico’s civil protection coordinator, Luis Felipe Puente, state and municipal officials did not report any damage “for the moment,” the AFP news agency reported.
Puente said on Twitter the earthquake was felt “moderately” in Oaxaca state and “strongly” in Chiapas and Tabasco. He said “some areas” of Mexico City in the center of the country also felt it.
