By Chrisbert Garcia: Police responded to a traffic accident between miles 8 and 9 on the Phillip Goldson Highway around 10:25 on Saturday night and saw the lifeless body of 37-year-old Robert Stephens Simplis, lying in the middle of the highway.
Also observed at the scene, was a burgundy Mazda Tribute SUV being driven at the time by 28-year-old Reginald James Gill, who told police that he was heading in the direction of Belize City when he collided into Simplis as he walked in the middle of the road.
Gill’s vehicle sustained considerable damage and Simplis was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Gill has since been detained and is pending investigation.
