Keyren tzib bail reservedBy Aaron Humes: After waiting two months and two days, 24-year-old Coast Guard seaman Keyren Tzib, accused of manslaughter in the July 18, 2015 killing of her common-law-husband, is tonight out on bail, two days before Christmas.

At the time of her arrest, she was actually out on bail for the close range shooting of a colleague at the Coast Guard Base three months prior.

The last time she appeared in court was on October 20 when Justice Troadio Gonzalez denied her bail based on the testimony of a psychiatrist who said it was uncertain if Tzib could avoid acting out if her emotions were injured or she was provoked.

The prosecution had vehemently opposed bail for Tzib, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and acute anxiety syndrome.

Justice Gonzalez ordered that Tzib receive support and appropriate counselling at the prison or elsewhere. He had also said then that bail may be granted today if the prosecution could not say what their position is in relation to trial and there are no reoccurrences of violence and she is getting her medication on time.

According to Tzib’s attorney, Darrel Bradley, that the decision to grant bail this time around was based on the fact that the prosecution is not yet ready to proceed with trial. And so, while the Crown objected to bail once more, the Judge took into consideration that the trial date is far away.
