By BMG Staff: The Belize Bank, as part of its annual Christmas activities with the community, donated $6,500 worth of aid to the Salvation Army and Mercy Kitchen for programs to support needy families during this time of the year.
Last Thursday Belize Bank Santa Helpers were at the Salvation Army’s Regent Street headquarters assisting Major Joliker Leandre and his team with the distribution of food hampers to various families. In all, the Salvation Army distributed over 100 food parcels benefiting over 500 families.
On Tuesday Belize Bank Helpers were at the Mercy Kitchen packaging food hampers which consisted of non-perishable food items that will provide meals for about four days to needy families in Belize City. After packaging, Belize Bank Santa Helpers along with Alejandrina Perdomo of the Mercy Kitchen went out to distribute the hampers to the five needy families, around the City. The families were pre-identified by the Mercy Kitchen as they conducted home visits to assess their living conditions and those most in need.
“Many people utilize the services of both the Salvation Army and Mercy Kitchen and we are pleased to be able to extend our support to increase their reach and impact,” said Shakira Tsai, Belize Bank general manager of Marketing.
In recent years, the Belize Bank has been an avid supporter of the efforts of both the Salvation Army and Mercy Kitchen particularly during the Christmas season which is one of their busiest times.
The Salvation Army runs several social programs in the community such as school feeding programs, educational services, and providing shelter for the homeless. The Mercy Kitchen is a non-profit organization which provides breakfast and lunch, as well as clothing to the elderly, poor and homeless in Belize City.
