By Aaron Humes: Following the arrest of a San Ignacio cop for a rape inside the police station this week, the Department has arrested and charged another policeman, a constable from San Pedro Town, with three counts of sexual assault.
26 year old Kyle Hubert Serano, attached to the San Pedro Formation of Eastern Division (North) and living in the San Pablo area, is accused of sexually assaulting a thirteen year old girl on three occasions between November 27 and December 3. Her report was made on Wednesday evening, December 9.
Today Serrano appeared without any legal representation before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser and was arraigned on 3 counts of sexual assault to which he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the offences are of a serious nature and the complainant is a minor.
Asked for his views, Serrano told the court that he understand the concern about the minor and that he is not exactly the most favorite officer on the island due to the allegations, but he maintained his innocence and said that he has been a humble and hardworking officer on the island up until the allegations surface against him.
Senior Magistrate Fraser upheld the objection and remanded Serrano into custody until January 26, citing his own safety and so that the heat on the island since the scandal surfaced can calm down.
