By Aaron Humes: A 25 year old woman, who allegedly took $3,500 that was stolen and deposited in her bank account, was denied bail and remanded into custody when she appeared today before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser and was arraigned on a charge of handling stolen goods.
Ariece Cicely Martinez, a domestic worker of Balam Street, Belize City, pleaded not guilty to the charge. She said that she was getting married on July 25 and on July 22 someone deposited the money in her account as a wedding gift.
She withdrew $1,000 the same day then she withdrew $2,500 afterwards. She burst out in tears when Senior Magistrate Fraser told her that she was being remanded into custody until January 8, 2016.
According to the allegation, the money was withdrawn from the account of Karen Bevans, Director of Tourism and ex-BTL executive, at First Caribbean Bank.
