marvin moraBy Aaron Humes: The Senate has met twice since the new government took office last November, but there is still no senator representing the trade unions and civil society.

The grouping has been unable to name its senator because they have been unable to put in motion the proper appointment process.

Former union senator, Ray Davis, was told to vacate, but remained in the post until general elections after he abstained from voting on the Petrocaribe Bill.

Marvin Mora, President of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) says they are still in consultations with the Civil Society Steering Committee on defining the process of selecting a Senator acceptable to both sides.

Mora says the Committee is willing to work with a temporary replacement for the time being, and nominations have been opened to find that person.
