By Chrisbert Garcia: Punta Gorda (PG) police have confirmed that 22-year-old Kaleem Chun, a resident of that municipality, has been detained pending investigation in connection to
the string of fires around town that caused mass damage in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Chun is suspected of starting the fire at Gomier’s Vegetarian and Seafood Restaurant, causing an estimated $6,000 in damages; setting an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck ablaze, completely destroying it, then attempting to burn down a family home as the occupants slept inside after 3:00 a.m. and finally, going across town to set a second vehicle on fire.
Fortunately, the occupants of the home were able to kill the flames before any serious damage was caused but for Chun, having previous run-ins with the law and now being detained for a felony, this incident might mean serious jail time.
