By Chrisbert Garcia: A truck driver of San Pablo Village in the Orange Walk District has been served with a notice of intended prosecution after police investigations revealed that his negligence caused the death of a male passenger he had on board a blue Freight Liner truck he was driving yesterday evening.
San Ignacio Police responded to an accident on Benque road near St. Gabriel Medical Center around 4:50 p.m. and saw 25-year-old Doyle Anthony Barahona trapped beneath the rear right wheel of the truck, which had a trailer attached to it and was up a hill, after running off the road.
Investigations revealed that 47-year-old David Dominguez was driving towards Hawksworth Bridge with 20-year-old Christopher Usher and Barahona on board, when he suddenly experienced brake failure as he got near St. Gabriel and was trying to pull over.
Dominguez then asked Barahona to get out and put a rock in front of a wheel so that the truck would come to a stop but he reportedly lost control and ran up a hill on the side of the road, causing the rear right wheel to crush its unsuspecting victim.
Barahona was then transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
