By Aaron Humes: American businessman Bradley Paumen, 58, was let out on bail, as is his right, following charges of conspiracy and abetment to commit murder – specifically against Iranian-American retired businessman Michael Modiri and three other persons, including a prominent attorney from Belize City.
The conspiracy is linked to business dealings involving the profitable cave guiding industry in the Franks Eddy area of Cayo District where Paumen owns a caving system called Dark Night. Today, Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie repeated that even after the fiasco with David Nanes Schnitzer last year, where the Mexican-American skipped bail on minor charges while facing graver charges elsewhere, it is the court’s prerogative to offer bail where the accused can satisfy the court that he will do nothing to pervert the course of justice.
According to the Commissioner, it is not necessary for police to directly protect those allegedly threatened with their lives by the businessman.
And for that mysterious gun registered to Paumen that was recovered by the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) in George Street territory? It is curious, but police have made no connections, according to the Commissioner.
