By Chrisbert Garcia: The four day competition that is an adventurer’s dream, the Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge, kicks off for 2016 on February 20th when groups of four will begin racing through the Belizean Jungles, mountain biking, trekking, orienteering, canoeing, rappelling and spelunking, from Cahal Pech Resort in hilly, scenic San Ignacio Town, Cayo District, where all the excitement will begin.
This competition displays Belize’s natural beauty with sprawling valleys, exotic wildlife, rushing green rivers, breath-taking scenery, ancient Mayan ruins and untouched cave systems, before ending in San Ignacio where the luxurious, award winning Cahal Pech Resort can take the edge off in one its 23 palm thatched cabanas, 14 standard rooms, 5 spacious suites, 9 deluxe suites or 3 fresh water swimming pools.
The resort also offers a restaurant that serves an assortment of gourmet flair, a fully stocked bar and a gift shop, as well as maximization of enjoyment with its fleet of tour vehicles and cadre of professional staff.
Director of the Maya Mountain Challenge, Julia Pollock said: “The Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge has taken on a life of its own. What started as a typical adventure race production has developed into a testament of one of the last truly unspoiled corners of the world”, and Rafael Manzanero of Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD), urged people to go out and see what Belize is really about, as the Maya Mountains is a part of our country that is rarely seen.
Reservations Manager for Cahal Pech Resort, Lloyd Alvarez, said the resort is excited and happy to host guests participating in the race or even those who simply just wish to relax in style. Alvarez said the staff will be more than willing to accommodate any needs and wishes all the participants of the race good luck!
