By BMG Staff: A series of sporting games were played across the country this weekend starting with Belize Premier Football League’s season opener, which saw Police United FC take on Belmopan Bandits in a tight game that ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.
Goal scorer for the Police side was Danny Jimenez, who found the back of the net in the second half. Elroy Smith got the first goal of the game in the first half with a penalty kick for Belmopan’s Bandits.
The National Elite Basketball League continued its schedule this weekend with 3 games played; two of which were only decided by one point. Belize Hurricanes defeated Cayo Western Ballaz by a convincing 9 points with the final score being 96-87 respectively, then in San Pedro, its reigning champs, the Tiger Sharks, stole a win from Belmopan Bandits Basketball team by one point and a final score of 61-60.
Finally, down South in Independence, Belize No Limits won over the Indepence Thunderbolts in another 1 point game, at a total score of 74-73 after four quarters of play. Games continue this weekend and the schedule will be published later in the week.
