Thursday, July 9th 2015. BMG: The monthly release of the FIFA Coca Cola World Football Rankings is out and there is excellent news for the Jaguars, the men’s national football team of Belize.
Belize is now ranked 118th of 209 nations, and 15th in CONCACAF, the best position ever, after two defeats of the Dominican Republic in World Cup qualifying last month. We achieved the best move by ranks of 37 for this month.
However, Belize continues to trail in Central America, leading only Nicaragua in the standings.
Belize’s next opponent will be learned in the preliminary draw for round three of CONCACAF qualifying on July 25 in St. Petersburg, Russia. According to FIFA.com the ten survivors for round two and Jamaica and Haiti will be separated into two pots according to this month’s rankings and paired up, with matches taking place from 31 August to 8 September. The six winners join regional powerhouses Mexico, United States, Panama, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica in Round Four, the group stage, with the top six progressing to the final stage beginning later this year.
Congratulations to the Jaguars!
