By Chrisbert Garcia: Details of a fatal traffic accident on the outskirts of Punta Gorda (PG) Town last night are still sketchy but it has been confirmed that several persons were injured, including police officers who were conducting searches on two individuals when the incident occurred.
It was sometime around 1:00 this morning in Eldridge Village, located approximately 4 miles outside of PG, while police on mobile patrol were searching two men on the shoulder of the highway near Embassy Night Club, when they were hit by a speeding, white 4-door vehicle, said to be owned by the operators of James Bus Line.
One of the men being searched at the time, who is believed to be an American National, took the most severe hit and died on the spot, while the other man who was being detained by police, along with the two officers, received varying injuries and were transported to the PG Hospital.
At this time, it is believed that the driver of the white vehicle was under the influence of alcohol since the police’s patrol vehicle was parked when it was hit.
