By Aaron Humes: The Executive Secretariat of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Americas (ALBA), executor of the Petrocaribe program, with funding from the Hugo Chavez Frias Petrocaribe Action Plan for the Eradication of Poverty and Hunger, named after the late Venezuelan president, along with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are collaborating with Belize’s Ministry of Agriculture to fund a project in southern Toledo.
The Ministry’s Emilio Montero told us that six villages along the new Southern Highway, containing more than six thousand farmers and their families, will be the specific target for development of practices in tending corn and beans.
According to Ciro Marcano, component coordinator for the Venezuela FAO Triangular Cooperation Program, the project is intended to build food security and sovereignty among the farmers and their families.
The Petrocaribe representatives from Venezuela say it was a dream of their late president that all tillers of the soil be recognized for their hard work and achievement.
