By Dalila Ical: The murder trial for Osmer Sabido, accused of killing his then-girlfriend, 21 year old
Christie Carrasco continued today at the Orange Walk Supreme Court.
A little after 10:00 this morning, Dr. Mario Estradaban, police pathologist, was cross examined by the prosecution and defense.
Dr. Estradaban described each of Carrasco’s injuries: one stab wound to the middle of her chest penetrated through her cartilage, her heart and her left lung; the second to the upper left side of her chest punctured her skin and muscle but did not penetrated deeper; and the third, to her left thumb and a fourth to her left knee 
were described as being non-life-threatening.
Dr. Estradaban added that the first stab wound, however, led to Carrasco bleeding to death.
When asked by the prosecution, Estradaban described the first and second stab wounds as having been inflicted with a “heavy force”. Of particular interest in Dr. Estradaban’s testimony was his description of the third wound to the deceased’s left thumb. He said it was a “defensive wound” meaning that the victim was injured there as she attempted to protect herself from her attacker.
The defense asked Dr. Estradaband if this was his opinion to which he responded yes, adding that he believed it was “a hundred percent a defensive wound.”
Osmer Sabido is scheduled to take the stand today, where his attorney, Oscar Selgado will present his defense.
For context, Christie Alexandra Carrasco was allegedly stabbed to death allegedly by her common law boyfriend Osmer Sabido on February 28th 2011.
