By Dalila Ical: Activities continue across the country for Child Stimulation Month as the Ministry of Education continues to promote early childhood education nationwide.
Part of the activities this week include an education expo held across the country. Hector Moralez, officer in charge of Early Childhood Education in Orange Walk says the event serves to bring further awareness to the importance of early learning.
The event is being held in collaboration with the Ministries of Human Development and Health.
The event at the Orange Walk Barracks included booths from all ministries. Human Development officers shared more information on parenting skills and the development of children as they grow, while the Health Department shared more on malaria, dengue, tuberculosis and the importance of vaccination with the public.
The Orange Walk Education Center set up a model of a pre-school centre which displayed the nine learning areas that children are engaged in when they attend pre-school. Moralez says they are also encouraging parental support and are asking parents of young children to send them to the nearest pre-school “because research shows these children are more productive and successful in their career studies” in the future.
Morales said that by mid-morning they had received an “unbelievable” number of visits from parents and children and are expecting more. The event closes at 1:30 this afternoon.
This is the first time that event is being held and it is being funded by UNICEF.
