By Dalila Ical: CEO in the Ministry of Health, Ramon Figueroa says that the “process failed” Shamika Flowers at the Northern Regional Hospital.
Figueroa says that while Flowers received proper medical care, her miscarried baby boy did not as there was a “misunderstanding” along the way in the handling of the child’s corpse.
Flowers had miscarried on Friday and returned on Monday this week to get her baby’s body for burial but the medical staff at the NRH could not locate the child.
Figueroa says he is aware that the patient had signed a form at the NRH but someone did not pass on the information or receive it and the baby was disposed of.
While the matter is serious, Figueroa says no one will be penalized but instead measures will be taken to improve on the protocols at the hospital. The Regional Manager at the NRH will meet with the staff while the Ministry indicates that it is willing to help the mother with money and counselling.
