Saturday, July 11th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: After the events of this week, the speculation begins on when general elections, constitutionally due by 2017, will be called. They are expected to be earlier, but how much?
Speaking in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday’s by-election in Dangriga, UDP area 
representative for Port Loyola Anthony “Boots” Martinez suggested that he hoped it would be called to take advantage of the UDP’s relative and maximum popularity to the PUP.
Comparing it to the raising of a flag, he said the UDP was “almost at the top” and now it was a matter of how fast they might lose their advantage, or how slowly. In his view, it should be called “tomorrow.”
Prime Minister Dean Barrow was much more cautious, even jokingly wondering whether his colleague might be secretly working for PUP leader Francis Fonseca, whose call for elections has been a mantra for some time now, though as he noted it has not been used recently.
Previously, the Prime Minister has said he would wait until sufficient funds from Petrocaribe had been used in the district towns and rural areas, which he did not expect until the second half of 2016.
The PUP have lost two of their 14 seats won in 2012 but would still need to win just four in order to hold a majority.
