By BBN Staff: Rangers from the Sarstoon Temash Institute for Indigenous Management (SATIIM) reported that during a visit to the Sarstoon river they were stopped by Guatemalan Armed Forces (GAF) who instructed them that they need to seek permission from Guatemalan officials before going to the river.

This latest incident comes on the heels of intensified aggression by the GAF in the area.

So far, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been mum on the incident. Following the most recent incident in Valentin where a BDF soldier was shot, the Ministry has also been silent except for a brief press release three days after the incident.

There has been no indication from the Ministry as to what measure have been or will be put in place to ensure Belizean soldiers and rangers can safely perform their tasks along the border.
