By BBN Staff: Sometime after 3:00 a.m. yesterday morning in Roaring Creek, Cayo District, police responded to reports of a fight in front of the burial ground and upon arrival, saw 40-year-old Jose Gonzalez suffering from a cut wound to his head.
Gonzalez was transported to the hospital where his injuries were classified as wounding and he was issued medico forms. He told officers that after leaving the La Cabana night club in Luis Ortiz’s Chevy Prism car, they were assaulted by a group of men upon reaching in front of the burial ground.
The men threw Gonzalez into some bushes on the side of the highway, then drove off with Ortiz in the car. Later that morning, the Chevy Prism was found submerged in a river in Camalote Village’s Young Bank area.
A short while later, at around 10:45 a.m., the lifeless body of 39-year-old Ortiz was retrieved from the Belize Old River near Agripino Cawich Bridge, when a cut wound was seen to the back of the head and an injury to the lower left eye.
The body was then transported to the Western Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead. Police have since detained six persons of Teakettle and Roaring Creek Villages, pending murder investigation.
