Sunday, July 12, 2015. BMG: John McAfee is back. The billionaire online security pioneer turned “person of interest” in a murder case in San Pedro Town will have his life story told in a six-part documentary series titled “The McAfee Project” which has been picked up by Spike TV in the United States.
Director Billy Corben is working with Miami-based studio Rakontur which has released several successful documentaries on the new series, which it is said will focus on “the international murder mystery involving McAfee that resulted in one of the most intense manhunts in Central American history.”
Gregory Faull was killed in his home in November of 2011 and almost immediately McAfee was the prime person of interest for police, who could not stop him getting off the island and running to Guatemala. The series will also feature McAfee’s personal history dating back to college in Virginia.
McAfee fought deportation to Belize by claiming that police and drug cartels here wanted to kill him, and faked multiple heart attacks. He was eventually sent to his native U.S. and his home here mysteriously burned to the ground.
Some are comparing The McAfee Project’s rumored format to that of the HBO sensation The Jinx, which chronicled the story of millionaire murder suspect Robert Durst.
No date has been set for the appearance of the project.
