By Aaron Humes: Minister of State in the Ministry of Immigration and Nationality, Beverly Castillo, has confirmed to other media that her Ministry is researching the validity of two passports issued to Chinese nationals recently.
The holders are suggested to have acquired their passports with suspect documents, and it is not even known if they ever entered the country.
The Minister of State did not say whether the persons’ nationality files were in the system, as the two are invariably tied.
The incident, if proven, comes after very stringent measures were put in place in the wake of the Citizen Kim scandal.
When the Senate met a few weeks ago, there was strong objection to changing the legislation allowing Minister Castillo to sign documentation; substantive Minister Senator Godwin Hulse remains the only person constitutionally empowered to sign.
