By Aaron Humes: The annual Bike Ride in memory to the late Ariel Rosado and hosted by the Ariel Rosado Foundation took place on Saturday on the George Price Highway.
The renamed Ariel Rosado Foundation was established to give life to future leaders of Belize, in memory and honor of a life cut off before reaching full potential.
Ariel, a popular cyclist and attorney in training, was killed in a massive traffic accident at Mile 2 on the Philip Goldson Highway in 2011.
Five years on, the Foundation named after him has given out many scholarships to deserving students based on their financial need.
Ariel’s father and president of the Foundation, Dr. Alvaro Rosado, noted that with seven of their scholarship students graduating from high school this year, the Foundation faces a tough task in selecting new scholars.
The Foundation asks that recipients document their financial need; be accepted to a high school (grades do not matter), and be recommended by your high school principal or administrator.
The Foundation also manages dedicated scholarships in memory of other persons and institutions such as the Belize Sailing Club.
Dr. Rosado told us that the Foundation hopes to install a computer center for students who need internet access in the near future.
