By Beverly Vernon: All the excitement over the weekend leaves two team to play in the semifinals for the Premiere League of Belize (PLB).
On Sunday at the MCC Grounds in Belize City the Belmopan Bandits took on BDF FC.
A penalty was scored by Belmopan Bandits’ Elroy Smith. In the second half, Leon Cadle from BDF scored to tie the ball game. The game ended 1-1, which was not for BDF FC to move to finals.
The Belmopan Bandits will move on to the final round.
The real Cinderella story happened at the Norman Broaster stadium between round one Champions Police United and the Placencia Assassins who came a long way with the support of their management and fans.
Placencia Assassins came with their mind set to score goals because they needed it to move on to the final rounds. In the regular time of play Dalton Eiley of the Placencia Assassins scored a penalty and started the excitement for his team. The momentum got more exciting as Byron Usher also got a penalty shot in for Police.
The ball game continued very physical until the referee blew the last whistle.
The game ended 3-2 in favor of Placencia Assassins with goals by Kareem Haylock and Gilbert Swazo.
Harrison Roches scored the second goal for Police. At this time the visiting team Placencia Assassins needed to score more goals to beat Police United.
The game was pushed to over time and then a penalty shootout. After both teams scored equal goals it was left up to the players to miss.
Placencia Assassins scored their last goal and Police United missed. So it was all in favor of the Placencia Assassins who will be playing against Belmopan Bandits in the finals.
