By Aaron Humes: Belize’s music is being featured in the ongoing New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
Featured on opening day Saturday at the Belize Pavilion of the Fair Grounds Race Course was The Garifuna Collective, with other Belizean acts scheduled to perform.
Visitors speaking to the Associated Press from the Jewel and elsewhere gave the group formed by the late Andy Palacio rave reviews – no small feat considering the well-known acts sharing the first day of the festival with them: Pearl Jam, Maxwell and Boz Scaggs among others.
The pavilion also highlights some of Belize’s craftsmen, who are showcasing their talents in basket-weaving and drum making.
