By Dalila Ical: Another shooting incident in the Corozal District has left one man dead and police looking for another.
Reports are that around 10:00 this morning a male person went to the police station to request assistance after he and another person were shot at in the San Jomal Area in Paraiso Village.
Officers responded quickly and when they visited the scene located about 5 1/2 miles northeast of Corozal Town, they found the body of 43-year-old Alberto Sarcenio, a resident of Paraiso Village lying face down motionless. Sarcenio has been shot once to the back and once to the head.
It appears that Sarcenio and the male who sought out the police this morning had been accused of stealing a bicycle yesterday. The complainant, whose name is being withheld by police so far, said they were working at a cane field yesterday, Sunday April 24, when a man and his son came to the field making the accusations and threatened to cause them “serious bodily harm” said Superintendent Dennis Arnold, Officer Commanding Corozal.
The son is believed to have returned today and “made good on his threat”, Arnold added.
Police are still verifying what kind of weapon was used in the shooting.
