By Aaron Humes: After an unprecedented 22 rounds of voting at Saturday’s Congress in Belize City, only three of five seats on the executive of the Football Federation of Belize have been decided.
We understand that Marlon Kuylen was re-elected to the executive as first vice-president, defeating Eugene Cleland, while Darlene Vernon and goalkeeper Shane Moody-Orio are executive members.
However, up to midnight Saturday, voters were unable to decide between outgoing vice-president Sergio Chuc and incumbent President Ruperto Vicente for the top post; neither could they pick from former top league commissioner Jaime (Maito) Perdomo and incumbent executive member Cruz Gamez for second vice president.
It will now be up to Kuylen, Vernon and Moody-Orio to decide the way forward for the troubled executive.
In March Kuylen, Chuc and Gamez were involved in an attempted ouster of Vicente due to various alleged irregularities; however, following consultations held by the regional football body CONCACAF and world governing body FIFA, it was decided that that attempt was not valid and Vicente could hold on to his post.
At the time, the trio seemed to be unsure about running for posts on the executive again; however one has been returned and two others are still in the running. We will continue to closely follow this developing story.
