By Aaron Humes: 29 year old Shane Bahadur, a resident of Dove Street, Ladyville is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned late this evening on two criminal and indictable offenses of attempted murder and wounding for the Friday,
May 6, 2016 shooting of Ladyville Mechanic, 31 year old Alrick Smith.
This evening, Bahadur and attorney, Leeroy Banner appeared before Magistrate, Carlon Mendoza who did not take a plea from him. Due to the nature of the offenses, he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July 18, 2016.
Smith is the brother-in-law to 21 year old Lionel Rhamdas, who is being laid to rest today at funeral services held at Saint Ignatius Catholic Primary School in Belize City after being shot and killed on Saturday, May 14, 2016 during a crossfire.
Police allege that a group of men including Casey Lozano, 23, Terence Richard Flowers Jr., 22, and 44 year old Lyndon Flowers and another whose name is not known were hanging out at Lozano’s home on Marage Road, when the group was ambushed by three men, two who came from the back of Lozano’s house, and another who came from Marage road.
Multiple shots were fired between the two set of males and as a result, Lionel Rhamdas was found lying on the ground with gunshot injuries to the back of his left ear. He died on the spot, while Lozano, Gillett and Flowers Jr., were injured. It is still not certain who shot Rhamdas.
Smith, meanwhile, told police on Friday, May 6, 2016, at about 11:30 p.m., whilst he was outside his house with his brother-in-law, 21 year old Lionel Rhamdas, now decease, doing mechanical work, he was approached by 2 male persons, one who he recognized as Shane Bahadur, the other also known to him, who had a firearm in his hand, which resemble a 9 mm pistol chrome in colour , who fired several shots in his direction where one of the shots caught him in his left upper leg.
On Monday, May 16, 2016, three days ago, Bahadur was detained by police for the Alrick Smith shooting.
