By Aaron Humes: 19 year old Zachary Knox, a resident of Rio Grande Crescent who allegedly fired shots at Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, was 
charged with aggravated assault and use of deadly means of harm when he appeared today before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza.
The charge of aggravated assault was for Knox alone but he is jointly charged with Larry Wright, Devon Sankey and Justin Hyde who were arraigned 2 weeks ago.
Knox was brought to court today from hospital where he was being treated after he was allegedly beaten by police. Earlier this week Williams and the other top commanders of Eastern Division refused to answer questions about what happened to him in their custody.
Knox’s face and body still showed obvious signs of injury on his court appearance, but despite the allegations Knox mentioned nothing of the alleged beating to Magistrate Mendoza in court.
Knox’s mother declined to comment about her son’s ordeal at this time but said, quote, “I am waiting on my son’s medical report and as soon as I have the evidence, I will speak with the media about my son’s condition.” End quote.
All four defendants were allegedly involved in a shooting incident which had occurred on Dolphin Street. What followed then was a high speed chase by Williams who was in the area and had heard the shots. Knox, the alleged gunman, had alighted from the vehicle and had fired shots at Williams but they all missed.
Knox is an American national but has been living in Belize since he was a child. He was denied bail and remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until July 22, 2016, when he returns with his three co-accused.
Zachary Knox has two convictions for drug possession since he turned 18 and owed 261 dollars in fines, which he will now serve in a month’s term behind bars.
