By Aaron Humes: Today is the first day of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season and as is now traditional, the Belize City Council issued an update on its activities in preparation.
According to Mayor Darrell Bradley, who also heads the City Emergency Management Organization, preparations began almost as soon as the 2015 season ended.
Thus, CEMO has been busy reviewing and retrofitting hurricane shelters, updating its plans and policies and refreshing training for stakeholders including for the first time university students.
Councilor in charge of organization of emergency management Philip Willoughby says attention has been paid to issues such as transport access for search and rescue.
The Council will host its annual symposium on emergency management next week.
