By BBN Staff: With the hurricane season opening today, predictions for storm activity in our area were released and show that a near normal six months is being expected, with the season closing at the end of November.
Predictions are that a high possibility for 10 to 16 named storms developing exists, with anywhere from four to eight of them becoming hurricanes and one to four developing into major hurricanes.
In an interview with the media, Chief Meteorological Officer at Belize’s MET Service, Dennis Gonguez, stated that this year there may be a need for us to move into hurricane shelters and urged all Belizeans to remain prepared at all times.
