By BBN Staff: Newly elected United Democratic Party (UDP) First Deputy was sworn in as the country’s new Deputy Prime Minister this afternoon by the Governor General, Sir Colville Young at the Belize House in Belmopan.
Following the ceremony, Faber spoke to the media addressing unity issues which have plagued the party since the Deputy Leadership convention last week.
Faber said that while only three ministers of Cabinet were present for his swearing in, many others had sent him text messages congratulating him and explaining why they could not be there. He added that the ceremony was called on short notice and said he understood why they weren’t present.
Faber also said that he was confident by the time the next election is called, presumably in 2020, the recent dissent within the UDP will have dissipated and not even a remnant would be left.
He said that the relationship between the contesting parties have improved since last week and he expects that working relationship to continue improving.
