By BBN Staff: A contractor of Duck Run 1 Village in the Cayo District, 36-year-old Juan Gonzalez, was detained by police last night for discharging his firearm in front of a bar and then crashing his vehicle due to suspected intoxication.
Gonzalez reportedly exited Mariana’s bar on Blue Bird Street in San Ignacio Town, took out his firearm and fired shots then sped off in his brown Ford Explorer vehicle, heading in the direction of Bullet Tree Village.
Police responded and searched the area, finding the Ford Explorer crashed in a drain and damaged to its front portion. Gonzalez was still inside and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Inside the vehicle, officers found a black 9mm Glock 17 pistol with eight live rounds inside and visited the scene of the shooting where they found seven expended shells.
Gonzalez appeared before a Magistrate in San Ignacio on a count of possession of firearm, whilst under the influence of alcohol and discharging a firearm in public.
He was remanded until August 8, 2016, as his charges were under the crime control and criminal justice act read along with the firearm act.
