GEF Small Grants Programme visits Elijio Panti National Park following devastating fires

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 31, 2024, Leonel Requena from The GEF Small Grants Programme – Belize visited Elijio Panti National Park to assess the damages caused during the recent fires.

During his visit, Requena discussed the post-wildfire impacts on the park’s flora and fauna and emphasized the need for strategies to mitigate wildfire threats.

These efforts are essential to protect both the park and community resources, ensuring better preparation for future fire events.

“Our rangers remain vigilant and actively monitor for potential fire outbreaks within our beautiful park. To help prevent further threats, we urge everyone to exercise extreme caution when lighting fires during this dry season,” a statement from the Park said.
