By Breaking Belize News Staff: Giovanni Ramirez, previously known for testifying against attorney-at-law Oscar Selgado, finds himself in legal trouble again. After pleading guilty to damage to property, Ramirez is back behind bars, accused of a March 2024 shooting.
Ramirez, who had recently been granted bail for gang membership, was detained on May 31, 2024, while signing in at the police station as part of his bail conditions. Police allege he was involved in an attempted murder, identified by the victim as the shooter.
While in custody, Ramirez caused damage to a police station property, leading to a charge of damaging a wooden frame worth $20. Ramirez pled guilty, stating he felt targeted by the police. The Senior Magistrate fined him $250, payable by August 16, 2024, or face two months’ imprisonment.
Earlier, Ramirez appeared before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola for the attempted murder charge and was remanded to Belize Central Prison until August 5, 2024.
