By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The United States (2-0) unleashed their firepower against Belize (1-1) mauling the Centrobasket third place team 150-54 on Day 2 of the FIBA Under 18 Americas Cup at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Tuesday. (To see the game, click here.)

The Belize team, exhausted after expending too much energy in their 106-102 win over Brazil on Tuesday, stood no chance against the American side.

The United States featured eight players with double digits. They were led by Darius Acuff, Jr., who, despite only playing 13:30 minutes, scored 23 points and made five assists. Christopher Brown scored 19, Jeremiah Fears netted 17, Morez Johnson, Jr. scored 15 and pulled 15 boards, Shelton Henderson 14, Derrion Reid and Patrick Ngongba scored 12 apiece, and Nathan Ament chipped in 11.

Ian Parham scored 12 points for Belize, Josiah Moseley netted 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Elijah Favella converted 10 points. Douglas Langford was held down to nine points.

Coach Matthew Smiling kept his starters, Langford (28:16), Moseley (26:32), Favela (21:43), Wilfred Dawson (26:09) and Devin Moody (13:28) for long periods on the bench saving them for the match against Argentina and [planning for the key playoff game on Friday that could mean a spot in the World Championship.

While a number of players didn’t see action in the 106-102 win over Brazil on Monday, all 13 players got time on the court against the United States.

In the other Group B game, hosts Argentina (0-1) take Brazil (0-1) at 5:10 pm (8:10 pm Argentina time) on Tuesday.

In Group A, Centrobasket subchampions Canada (1-1) whipped Centrobasket champions Puerto Rico (0-2) 93-54 in Tuesday’s opener. The Dominican Republic (2-0) beat Venezuela (1-1) 99-63 in the second game.

Belize will close group play against Argentina on Wednesday, June 5, at 5:10 pm (8:10 pm Argentina time).
