United States smash Brazil 88-57, win Group B undefeated at FIBA U18 AmeriCup

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The United States overpowered Brazil by 31 points, 88-57, on Wednesday to finish undefeated with a 3-0 record topping Group B at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

FIBA considered Daniel Jacobsen as the USA’s top performer with his eight points, five rebounds, one assist, and four blocks.

John McKenney III topped the charts with 12 points and seven rebounds while Jasper Johnson added 12 points, four assists, and two steals. Nikolas Khamenia and Derrion Reid contributed 11 apiece, while Shelton Anderson added ten points with four rebounds.

Gabriel Ferreira was Brazil’s top performer with nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Patrick Perna scored ten points and pulled three boards. Nolan Junior Kemm also scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds.

The United States (3-0) topped Group B ahead of Brazil (1-2), Belize (1-1), and Argentina (0-2). Final group standings will be determined by the end of the Belize-Argentina game.

Group B play finishes Wednesday evening when Belize (1-1) close off the first round against winless Argentina (0-2) at 5:10 pm (8:10 pm Argentina time). (To see the game, click here.)

Earlier Canada defeated Venezuela 89-53 while the Dominican Republic dropped Puerto Rico 63-52.

The Dominican Republic finished atop Group A with a perfect 3-0 record after victories over Canada (2-1) and Venezuela (1-2), who finished second and third respectively. Puerto Rico finished in last place with a dismal 0-3 record.
