By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Jyven Gonzalez captured the silver medal at the Central American Under 23 Road Championship in San Sebastián, Honduras on Sunday.
Gonzalez rode the 112.8 kilometre- race (70.5 miles) in 2:52:11, two seconds behind winner Kenny Chaves Rizo of Costa Rica who clocked 2:52:09. Chaves and Gonzalez recorded an average speed of 39.31 kms per hour (24.57 miles per hour) on the four lap San Sebastian – Tablazón Road circuit in San Sebastián near Tegucigalpa.
Third place Costa Rican Emanuel Castro Esquivel also had the same as did the following two, Josué Hurtado of El Salvador and Ottoniel Chonay of Guatemala.
Derrick Chavarria finished 13th in 2:59:19; he was second in the seven-man sprint for 12th place.
The other three Belizeans were disqualified: Fernando Rosado was 28th, Dejuan Hyde 29th, and Leon Leslie 30th when they were disqualified.
Thirty-two riders competed.

In the Elite Road Championship, which also covered 70.5 miles, Belize’s five riders finished over the time limit (OTL). Giovanni Lovell finished 26th, Carlton Robinson 31st, Athlee Lozano 32nd, Byron Pope 36th, and Dylan Levy 37th.
The winner was Panamanian Franklin Archibold who clocked 2:51:28 riding at a speed of 39.47 kms/hr (24.67 mph).
In the Team Time Trial on Friday, June 7, Belize finished seventh of seven behind Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador (in that order).
The Team consisted of Carlton Robinson, Giovanni Lovell, Byron Pope, Derrick Chavarria, Dejuan Hyde, and Jyven Gonzalez. They clocked 51 minutes, 3.745 seconds (51:03.745). Panama won the event in 44:53.984.
In the Under 23 Individual Time Trial (ITT) on Thursday, June 6 Dejuan Hyde finished 13th in the 38.8 kilometre-race (24.25 miles). He was timed at 57:40.223. The winner, Costa Rican Donovan Ramírez clocked 49:10.679. He rode at a speed of 47.34 kms/h (29.59 miles).
Carlton Robinson 15th in the Elite ITT recorded a time of 54:28.024. Byron Pope finished 19th of 19 in 57:20.030. The winner Panamanian Franklin Archibold ran the race in 47:49.638 at a speed of 49.25 kms/h (30.78 mph)
