UEFA Euro 2024: Georgia earn first ever EURO point with 1-1 draw against Czechia

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Georgia made history gaining their first ever point at a Euro Championship when they managed a 1-1 draw against Czechia at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, Germany in the UEFA European Championship (EURO2024).

Mikautadze converted Georgia’s goal from the penalty spot in injury time (45’+4) to take the lead in their second game in Group F. The goal was Mikautadze’s second of the tournament.

However, Czechia levelled the score in the 59^th minute when Shick found the net.

Both teams now have one point and are still alive in Group F. Türkiye and Portugal, who lead the group with three points, face off at 10:00 am at the BVB Stadion Dortmund in Dortmund. A win for either sends them to the second round. A draw leaves the group unsettled until Matchday 3 on Wednesday, June 26.

The day closes with the Group E encounter between Romania, who have three points, and Belgium, who dropped their first game. After Friday’s Ukraine 2-1 win over Slovakia, those two teams also have three points.

Romania qualify if they win on Saturday but a Belgium victory would force a four-way tie in points. Belgium would be hard-pressed with a draw. If Romania draw or lose, nobody would be qualified until Matchday 3 on Wednesday, June 26.
