Ya’axché hosts Ya’axché Farmers’ Expo in San Jose, Orange Walk

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Saturday, June 22, 2024, Ya’axché hosted the Ya’axché Farmers’ Expo in San Jose Village, Orange Walk.

Ya’axché noted that the expo was a fantastic family day filled with fun and festivities, but most importantly, it was a day to recognize the incredible farmers who are leading the way in sustainable, climate-smart practices in southern Belize.

Five male and two female farmers from the beneficiary communities received awards during the Farmer of the Year Award ceremony.

“We are so grateful for these dedicated individuals who are working hard to conserve our environment while ensuring a prosperous future for their communities,” Ya’axché expressed.

The event had interactive activities for both youths and adults, culminating with a Five-A-Side Marathon organized by the leaders of the village. Kids were entertained with games, while adults learned about the latest advancements in climate-smart agriculture and biodiversity monitoring through informative booths.

The heart of the Expo highlighted the outstanding farmers who are leading in the adoption of sustainable practices for food security within the Maya Golden Landscape.

“These dedicated individuals are integral to protecting our precious environment as Ya’axché aims to continue fostering resilient communities,” a statement added.
