By Horace Palacio: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) announced today that the country’s power system remained intact during the passage of Hurricane Beryl, which made landfall over the Yucatán Peninsula last night. BEL expressed solidarity with communities affected by the storm in the Caribbean and Mexico.
Following the National Emergency Management Organization’s “All Clear” declaration this morning, BEL assured customers that while Belize was fortunate to avoid damage, the company remains focused on its Hurricane Preparedness Plan.
A key aspect of this plan is vegetation management, as falling trees are a major cause of power interruptions during storms. BEL encourages customers to report any dangerous trees near power lines through the BEL 24-7 App, by calling the toll-free number 0-800-BEL-CARE, or messaging on Facebook.
The company expressed gratitude for customers’ cooperation and reiterated its commitment to providing safe and reliable power services throughout the hurricane season.
