Family asks for blood donations for top Belizean cyclist Mateo Cruz who is suffering from serious health problems

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The family of former top Belizean cyclist Mateo Cruz is asking for blood donations for Mateo who underwent his first dialysis on Monday night at Belize City after being diagnosed with kidney failure.

“Plz plz blood saves lives. My brother Mateo Cruz is urgently in need of 4 pints of blood. If you or anyone you know can donate plz help out. They can donate at the blood bank in Belize city. Thanks in advance,” Mateo’s sister Penny Cruz posted on social media on Tuesday at 1:15 pm.

Reports say Mateo was first diagnosed with cirrhosis and later renal failure which has required the dialysis.

Mateo was first admitted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Belize Healthcare Partners where he underwent the dialysis.

Mateo’s family is now organizing a barbeque fundraiser on Saturday, July 13, in Roaring Creek to help with the medical expenses. Deliveries can be made in Roaring Creek, Belmopan, and Camalote.
