UEFA Euro 2024: Spain punch ticket to Final in pulsating 2-1 come-from-behind win over France

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Spain controlled the pace of the match forging a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over France in the first UEFA European Championship (EURO2024) Semifinals at the Munich Football Arena in Munich, Germany on Tuesday.

France  got off to a fast start when Kylian Mbappé found Randal Kolo Muani in the box. The French striker lifted himself above the Spanish defenders and headed the ball past goalkeeper Unai Simón.

Spain’s reaction came within 12 minutes when 16-year-old Lamine Yamal scored the equalizer from 25 yards out in the 21^st minute. Yamal became the youngest player to score at EURO Championship at 16 years and 362 days. The previous youngest scorer was Switzerland’s Johan Vonlanthen, who also scored against France in EURO 2004 at 18 years and 141 days.

Four minutes laterih te 25^th minute, La Roja busted the Les Bleus defence again when Dani Olmo hammered a powerful right-foot shot to goal. Jules Koundé tried to deflect but only succeeded in helping it in. The ball was headed straight to goal, so it was deemed an Olmo goal.

France had only conceded one goal in the previous five games.

The match ended with a to-and-fro with Spain closer to getting the third than France scoring the tying goal.

Spain will now meet the winner of Wednesday’s match between the Netherlands and England, in the Final on Sunday.

England will play the Netherlands at 1:00 pm at the BVB Stadion Dortmund in Dortmund on Wednesday, July 10.

The winners will meet in the Final on Sunday, July 14, at 1:00 pm at the Olympiastadion Berlin  in Berlin. The Olympiastadion Berlin, which has a capacity of 71,000, hosted the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final and the 2015 UEFA Champions League Final.
