Gary Seawell extradition case continued

By Aaron Humes: A hearing was scheduled today in the Court of Appeal regarding the extradition of Gary Gordon Seawell to the U.S. on drug trafficking charges. Gary

However, it was traversed to the next session of the Court in October, as the parties agreed before today due to an application made by the Government to introduce new evidence.

President of the Court Manuel Sosa, Justice Ducille Murrillo and Madam, Justice Minnette Hafiz Bertram presided; the office of the Solicitor General was represented by Trienia Young and Agassi Finnegan; and Seawell by Anthony Sylvestre.

The Court directed both parties to submit their written submissions to the court within 21 days of each other.

Seawell has been on remand at the Belize Central Prison since October 2010. He is wanted in the United States to stand trial in the U.S. state of Ohio on indictment for conspiracy to import  over 500 grams of cocaine in the USA; conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana; conspiracy to commit money laundering; laundering of monetary instruments to promote trafficking in cocaine and marijuana; laundering of monetary instruments to conceal or disguise the nature, location, source ownership of the proceeds derived from the sale of cocaine and marijuana; importation of more than 500 grams of cocaine into the US; attempted importation into the US of more than 500 grams of cocaine, and attempt to possess with intent to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine.

He was ordered extradited by the Magistrate’s and Supreme Courts and is appealing the ruling of habeas corpus made against him by the latter.
